Head of Department: Mr D Nisbet (david.nisbet [at] kingussiehigh.org.uk)
Kingussie High School Science Department aims to bring scientific ideas to life through stimulating and relevant learning experiences for young people. This includes activities both within and outside of the classroom, and our pupils regularly take advantage of the unique natural environment surrounding the school. In addition to this, our learners are also able to access business and higher education links throughout Scotland.
Our pupils have the opportunity to progress in Biology, Chemistry and Physics from their CfE level in S1 through to Advanced Higher. Our curriculum structure involves a Broad General Education phase from S1 to S3 (with a transition to discrete sciences in S3) followed by 1 year SQA courses from S4 to S6. As well as the subject choices in the Senior Phase, pupils also have the opportunity to take an Elective Science course in S2 / S3, offering a greater degree of personalisation in their learning.
Our department consists of a team of teaching and support staff who work closely to develop plans for integrated learning within a positive environment. Staff take a proactive approach with the new curriculum developments and openly share experiences from their practice. There is a strong commitment to improve the provision for young people in our area and to promote achievement through learning in Science.
