A bitterly cold wind and some driving rain made playing shinty possibly the second best option after actually being at classes! However, we are made of stern stuff in Badenoch and the competition began with Kingussie beating a combined Kinlochleven/Ardnamurachan team 1-0. It should have been 10-0 and we will put the misses down to being rusty due to the shinty season ending donkies ago!
Boy did the rain fall and the wind blow and the soup being provided by our very own ‘dinner lady ‘in the shape of Mr Adamson was a great tonic. Much appreciated by the Kingussie team and even some of our long standing rivals from Lochaber!
Next up was Charleston and they were soon dispatched 3-0. Sam Richardson added three goals to his single in the previous match.
Not sure if you get the picture yet but it was Baltic in the extreme though Mr Anderson was cosy enough with his thermals, a t-shirt, sweat shirt and two mountain jackets. Rhuaridh Anderson knicked his gloves so it wasn’t all plain sailing.
Lochaber were next on the agenda and once our anti-freeze got into the joints we polished them off with yet another (very sweet) 3-0 victory. So it was three straight wins, seven goals scored and none conceded. Sam Richardson scoring six altogether whilst James Falconer pitched in with a single. Throughout our defence was rock solid but man of the tourney was Craig Ritchie.
The presentation was made by Tommy Wade, and it was nice to see the Scottish Cup for schools shinty being lifted by Captain Robert Mabon before it made its way to it’s natural resting place in the cabinet of KHS. The entire squad were yet again a credit to themselves, their shinty clubs and the school throughout the day. Well done to all.
Many thanks to Davie Anderson and Ronald Ross for refereeing and for Michael Ritchie for his assistance with the team.
